Gilgit Baltistan starts as soon as the descent from Basbusar Top starts. From the route of Karakoram Highway, which is a visual wonder of the world, the whole area encapsulates Gilgit Baltistan. The world-famous annual polo encounter between Gilgit Baltistan and Chitral is held every year at the Shandur Plains which is the highest polo field in the world.
The two major cities of Gilgit Baltistan are Skardu and Gilgit. Gilgit is the commercial hub of this region whereas Skardu is the mountaineer’s delight. The fabled area of Hunza Nagar also resides in this region.
