Broad Peak Expedition (8047m)

Detail

Broad Peak (8047m), aptly named for its immense and imposing bulk, is also locally known as Falchan Kangri. The mountain dominates its surroundings and offers one of the most breathtaking trekking and climbing experiences in the Karakoram.

The journey begins in Islamabad, followed by a flight to Skardu, or a scenic road journey through the Indus Gorge in case of bad weather. From Skardu, jeeps take the team to Askole, the last inhabited village and the true gateway to the high mountains. From here, trekkers leave civilization behind, camping each night with the support of local Balti porters, whose music and culture add vibrancy to the stark, majestic landscapes.

The trek continues through Paiyu, the final campsite before entering the Baltoro Glacier. The approach to Broad Peak follows the true left side of the Baltoro, offering spectacular views of the Trango Towers and surrounding peaks. It takes approximately six days to reach Broad Peak Base Camp, the starting point for the ascent.

Climbing Broad Peak involves moving from Base Camp through a rock gully to Camp I (6000m), then ascending a large snow face to Camp II (6400m). The final high camp is set at 7400m, from which climbers make their summit bid. While the climb itself is not technically extreme, the remoteness and high-altitude conditions make it a uniquely rewarding experience. Whether this is your first 8000m peak or your third, the Broad Peak expedition offers an unforgettable adventure in one of the world’s most dramatic mountain ranges.
