Italian mountaineer Fosco Maraini famously described Concordia as “the world’s greatest museum of shape and form” in his book Karakoram—and nowhere does this feel more true than at the heart of the Baltoro region. At Concordia, six colossal peaks rising above 7,925 meters dominate the horizon, including K2 (8,611 m), the second-highest mountain on Earth.
The adventure begins in Islamabad, followed by a spectacular flight to Skardu. From there, we drive to the trailhead where we meet our experienced and resilient expedition porters—the mountain men of the Karakoram—who will accompany us throughout this journey.
As we trek deeper into this dramatic wilderness of ice, rock, and sky, the landscape steadily transforms. Reaching Paiju Camp, at the edge of the mighty Baltoro Glacier, we step into a living world of shifting ice and stone. The glacier creaks and groans beneath our feet as meltwater rivers carve new paths through the ice—a powerful reminder of nature in constant motion.
The reward awaits at Concordia, one of the most awe-inspiring mountain amphitheaters on the planet. From this legendary viewpoint, K2, Broad Peak (8,051 m), Gasherbrum IV (7,925 m), and the striking Mitre Peak rise dramatically around us, creating an unforgettable panorama that few places on Earth can rival.
Our return journey crosses the formidable Gondogoro La (5,600 m)—a demanding high-altitude pass along the Gondogoro Glacier—before descending into the contrasting green landscapes of the Hushe Valley.
This expedition is challenging and highly rewarding, designed for trekkers with prior high-altitude mountain trekking experience, and offers a true immersion into the raw grandeur of the Karakoram.
Welcome to Pakistan. Most international flights arrive at Islamabad International Airport in the morning. Our representative will meet and greet you at the airport and transfer you to the group hotel.
The rest of the day is free to recover from your journey. Once all participants have arrived, we will hold a group briefing covering the Pastore Peak climb, K2 Base Camp, and Gondogoro La trek.
Depending on available time, there may be an optional sightseeing tour of Islamabad, a purpose-built capital city established in 1961.
Today, we take a spectacular 45-minute flight (weather permitting) from Islamabad to Skardu, the capital of Baltistan. Enjoy breathtaking aerial views of the Himalayas and Karakoram ranges, including Nanga Parbat (8,126m). On exceptionally clear days, views of K2 and Gondogoro Pass may also be visible.
Upon arrival, transfer to the hotel. Later, explore the local bazaar, historical forts, scenic lakes, or visit the ancient Manthal Buddha Rock, an 8th-century Buddhist carving reflecting the region’s pre-Islamic heritage.
Skardu, the former capital of the ancient Baltistan Kingdom, is the gateway to many legendary treks and climbs. In the morning, visit Kharpocho Fort, offering panoramic views of Skardu town and the Indus River—perfect for sunrise or sunset photography.
Optional activities include a jeep excursion to Satpara Lake, visiting the Organic Village, or exploring the local markets.
Note: If the road between Askoli and Jhola is closed, today will be used to drive to Askoli for an overnight stay.
Drive along the Indus, Shigar, and Braldu Rivers to Askoli, the last village before entering the Karakoram wilderness. Meet your expedition porters and take time to observe village life among wooden houses, irrigated fields, and apricot groves.
From Askoli, begin trekking through fields and valleys, crossing the snout of the Biafo Glacier—your first taste of Karakoram moraine terrain—before reaching Korfong beside the Braldu River. Continue onward to Jhola Camp, crossing a suspension bridge over the roaring Braldu River, with stunning views of Bakhor Das (5,809m) and Paiju Peak.
Overnight: Jhola Camp
Your first full trekking day begins. The trail follows the Braldu River before climbing to higher ground, offering excellent views of Paiju Peak (6,611m). You will cross several streams—sports sandals or old trainers are useful.
Paiju is a green oasis beneath towering peaks and marks the entrance to the Baltoro Glacier. From here, enjoy first views of the Trango Towers, Cathedral Group, and—on clear days—a distant glimpse of K2.
Overnight: Paiju Camp
An early start brings you to the snout of the Baltoro Glacier. After climbing onto its rubble-covered surface, trek across undulating moraine terrain—tough but unforgettable.
Stunning views emerge of the Trango Towers, Cathedral Peaks, and Uli Biaho as you reach Khoburtse Camp (3,760m) after a demanding day on mixed terrain.
Overnight: Khoburtse Camp
A shorter but challenging day with steady elevation gain. Trek along the Baltoro Glacier, passing the dramatic Great Trango and the iconic Nameless Tower, before reaching Urdukas Camp—one of the most spectacular campsites in the Karakoram.
The afternoon is free to relax and absorb the breathtaking views.
Overnight: Urdukas Camp
Based on years of experience at Pastore Peak, an acclimatization day at Urdukas greatly improves success rates. Enjoy washing facilities and a scenic acclimatization hike on grassy slopes filled with alpine flowers.
“Climb high, sleep low” prepares your body for higher altitudes ahead.
Overnight: Urdukas Camp
Continue eastward along the Baltoro Glacier, passing the Yermanandu Glacier flowing from Masherbrum (7,800m). Camp at Goro II, set directly on the glacier, surrounded by towering Karakoram giants.
Cold nights are expected—this is one of the largest non-polar ice fields on Earth.
Overnight: Goro II Camp
One of the most spectacular trekking days in the world. Trek past Mustagh Tower (7,284m) with Gasherbrum IV guiding the way. Broad Peak (8,051m) and Gasherbrum II gradually come into view.
K2 remains hidden until the final approach—then suddenly dominates the skyline. Concordia sits at the junction of multiple glaciers and offers views of four 8,000m peaks and many of the world’s highest mountains.
Overnight: Concordia Camp (4,500m)
Trek along the Godwin Austen Glacier to Broad Peak Base Camp, one of the finest viewpoints of K2. Enjoy the dramatic setting among Karakoram giants.
Overnight: Broad Peak Base Camp
Early start to witness sunrise over K2. Trek to K2 Base Camp, a major highlight of the expedition. After soaking in the legendary views, return and continue to Pastore Peak Base Camp.
Overnight: Pastore Peak Base Camp
Begin the ascent of Pastore Peak. Depending on conditions, the climb typically takes 1–3 days, but four days are allocated for safety and weather flexibility.
High-altitude staff will fix ropes and establish camps while the main team remains supported at base camp.
Overnight: Pastore Peak Base Camp / High Camps
After completing the climb, trek across the Upper Baltoro toward Ali Camp (4,800m) near the Gondogoro La approach. Practice fixed-rope techniques and prepare for the pass crossing.
Overnight: Ali Camp
A very early start (around 2:00 a.m.) to cross Gondogoro La safely. Rope up and climb the West Vigne Glacier under star-filled skies.
From the summit, enjoy unmatched views of K2, Broad Peak, Gasherbrum I & II, and the stunning Laila Peak. Descend carefully on fixed ropes to Khuspang, a green oasis in the Hushe Valley.
A professional rescue team assists the crossing (fee included).
Overnight: Khuspang Camp
Reserved for weather delays or a second attempt at Gondogoro La if required. If unused, enjoy rest or exploration in the Hushe Valley.
Descend through yak pastures and alpine meadows with spectacular views of Masherbrum. Reach Siacho (3,350m), your first oxygen-rich campsite in days.
Overnight: Siacho Camp
Final walking day to Hushe Village, followed by a scenic drive through Khaplu Valley back to Skardu. Enjoy a hot shower and a comfortable bed.
Overnight: Hotel in Skardu
Weather permitting, fly back to Islamabad with more stunning views of Nanga Parbat. Free afternoon for rest or sightseeing. Celebrate with a farewell dinner.
If flights are canceled, drive via the Karakoram Highway to Chilas.
Extra day in case of road travel or flight delays. If already in Islamabad, enjoy sightseeing and a final group meal.
After breakfast, transfer to Islamabad International Airport for your onward flight home.
