Detail

Passu Peak (7478m) and Passu II (7285m) are two stunning 7,000-meter summits located in the breathtaking Passu Range of Upper Hunza, Gilgit-Baltistan. With a height difference of less than 200 meters, both peaks offer similar climbing durations, high camps, and technical challenges—making them ideal objectives for experienced mountaineers seeking adventure in the Karakoram.

📍 Journey to Base Camp

Our expedition begins with a scenic drive from Islamabad along the legendary Karakoram Highway to Chilas (approx. 12 hours). From Chilas, we continue to Upper Hunza Valley and stay in Gulmit, a peaceful village near Karimabad.

From Gulmit, 4×4 jeeps take us to Borit Lake, the trek starting point. A 4-hour scenic trek across lush pastures and alongside the magnificent Passu Glacier leads us to Passu Ghar (summer pasture campsite).

🏕️ Trek & Acclimatization

From Passu Ghar, we cross the glacier and trek to Lazdur before ascending to Patundas (4200m), a spectacular panoramic viewpoint overlooking Hunza, Upper Hunza, and Shimshal Valley.

A short descent brings us to Base Camp (3900m), located in a green meadow near a seasonal lake and beneath the snowfields of Passu Peak. This site is also one of the base camps for Shispar (7611m).

After proper acclimatization, we establish an Advanced Base Camp (approx. 4000m) on the glacier.

🧗 Climbing Route & High Camps

The real climb begins from the Advance Base Camp:

  • Camp 1 (4900m): Technical section with crevasses and seracs. Fixed ropes and ladders may be required.

  • Camp 2 (5700m): Long snowfield ascent; mostly non-technical with minor rope fixing.

  • Camp 3 (6600m): Gradual climb over deep snow with potential hidden crevasses.

  • Camp 4 (6900m – for Passu I only): Required for summit attempt of Passu Peak (7478m).

The summit push:

  • Passu II (7285m): 7–8 hours from Camp 3, non-technical but physically demanding due to deep snow.

  • Passu Peak (7478m): Requires Camp 4 and includes a steep 200+ meter final ascent before reaching the summit.
